An education trust in Taunton has invested £100,000 in renovating a nursery in North Curry, creating a new classroom, kitchen, outdoor play area and forest school. As a result of the investment, Little Herons will be opening all year round from September and taking babies from six months.
The nursery is part of the Richard Huish Trust, which has six schools and a college in the Taunton area. It already offers other opportunities to children including regular trips to Willow and Wetlands Centre, an early introduction to phonics, daily supervised daily teeth brushing with the Big Brush Club and hot lunches provided by the main North Curry School.
Head Teacher Helen Morley said: “We are privileged to have been given this investment to improve our offer to parents in the area. It means we can now provide breakfast and tea in the nursery. We have created a breakfast bar area, so the children can see how the food is prepared. We have also expanded our play areas and have the most fantastic outdoor space, with play equipment and a natural area.
“We pride ourselves on our good communication with parents, with an open door policy and a holistic curiosity approach to learning. Our Nursery really benefits from being attached to the school and our curriculum is aligned with latest research, standards and best practice.”
Once a week the children are taught by former first class county cricketer Matt Bulbeck, who is a PE teacher in the main school. Matt gives the nursery children lessons once a week in the gym, using a specially adapted programme for small children.
Nursery Manager and Early Years teacher Hayley Wade said: “The investment that we have had further enhances our already amazing provision. This has enabled us to create an ideal environment for creative learning and memorable, happy nursery experiences for our children.”
“We are very lucky to have Matt and the unique skills he brings to the nursery. It’s so beneficial for young children to have a good routine for their health and wellbeing."
Parent Regi Zrupko said: “My little boy has thrived in Little Herons. The staff are kind, compassionate and enthusiastic about what they do. There is a real genuine care and happiness in the nursery.”
