Foodie's Heavenly Job

Fancy a job tasting some of the country’s finest supermarket meal ingredients? The Flavourworks in Wincanton, Somerset, is advertising for a “Creative Flavour Conductor” to sample new products and visit restaurants on its behalf.

The successful candidate will get to spend 2020 testing 5,000 samples, 250 new product launches and visiting 50 restaurants for research - as part of a normal year in the life of The Flavourworks’s development team. The company supplies the UK’s top food manufacturers with sauces, butters, crumbs, stuffings, oils and marinades for their dishes. The finished products often feature in popular Christmas tv adverts.

The MD, or “Chief Flavourista”, Chris Ormrod said: “This must be one of the best jobs in the UK food and drink industry. We’re looking for an individual full of flavour to lead our team, benefits include all the garlic butter that you can eat and a golden ticket to all of The Flavourworks’s tasting sessions.

“We’re on the look out for somebody who can help us to continue developing inspirational ingredients for meals everywhere. The ideal person will be a real foodie, with all the leadership skills needed for an important role in our company. Must like garlic!

“Our current much loved Flavour Conductor is also a top fishing expert and has decided to escape to New Zealand. Despite our best attempts to keep her here, we can’t compete with the combined attractions of the All Blacks and manuka honey…”

The Flavourworks is on a rapid expansion currently and recently promoted a new Sales Director. Tony Oscroft, who previously worked for Samworth Brothers and McCain Foods, joined the business in 2010.

Chris added: “Tony has played an important part in the recent growth of Flavourworks and this is a well deserved appointment.”

The Flavourworks provides a range of different added value ingredients such as flavoured butters, sauces, marinades and coatings to the UK and European food industry. It changed its name from Markus Products in 2018 as part of a wide ranging strategic review that also saw the business invest a significant amount in a new sauce making facility. It is privately owned with 130 employees and sales of £15m.
